Translation
Excessive kindness brings suspicion and abuse to the person showing it
APPLICATION
Let there be limitation to the show of your kindness to people lest they misconstrue your intentions.
NOTE: One of my friends, Mr Oladunni Adébáyọ (MSc History, Unilorin), while we were discussing about three weeks ago said to me “Sẹgun, I usually look at people who are showing kindness to people, most especially the young ones, and sometimes I would be tempted to want to tell them that “sé ẹ kò mọ wipe oore kò pé ni?” (translation: don’t you know that doing good/showing kindness has no reward?), people will repay your kindness with evil sooner or later”, and I said uhmn. For anyone who has been doing good before but who has been paid back by evil by those he has assisted/supported there could be no better submission than what my friend has said, and because such has happened to me before the which I am yet to be freed from, I cannot counter what my friend said and now seeing this elderly proverbs, then I am can not agree less….You can also learn from this, limit the showing of your kindness but if you have been doing it and it is paying for you, please continue, but for some of us who has repeatedly have evil for good, we can not but toe the line of caution.
