SEVEN THINGS THAT CHILDREN OUGHT TO BE DOING

SEVEN THINGS THAT CHILDREN OUGHT TO BE DOING

We
were once babies being carried around by our parents, uncles, brothers
etc. And presently some of us are yet children before our parents, that
is, those who still have parents. Although at the moment, they would not
be carrying us around like when we were naive, toddlers but since they
are alive, we are still their wards. And no one, I mean no one, even
those in the developed world inclusive, ever prayed to die before their
parents. Every child wishes and prays that she or he outlives his or her
 parents.

In this topic, i wish to show us seven
things as seen from the scriptures which is expected of children to be
doing. For some of us who yet see ourselves children before our parents
we shall equally discover that we are not exempted from these.

Here are the seven things

1.
SITTING BEFORE THE TEACHERS. Jesus while in the flesh was known as
Rabbi, meaning Teacher. He was the greatest teacher while in the flesh.
And presently now, he is yet the greatest teacher by the Spirit because
we are in the Spiritual dispensation and Jesus has sent his Holy Spirit
unto us via whom we can say "Habba Father" (Romans 8:15)

As we read this we may want to ask that who is a teacher?

WHO
IS A TEACHER? This question is of utmost importance because we often
confused a teacher with others who are instructing people. A teacher is
different from an instructor, a teacher is not a lecturer. We shall see
that an instructor also passes knowledge to his or her students as well
as lecturers. But this does not make them a teacher. We shall see that
Apostle Paul while talking on the five offices in his epistle to the
Ephesians does not talk about instructor neither did he talk about
lecturers but he specifically mentioned a teacher. This essentially
shows us that teachers are different from
Pastors/Prophets/Apostles/Evangelists.... However, we by the Spirit also
knows that those who have these gifts could also show the gifts of
teaching, but that yet does not place them in that office.

A
teacher is someone who passes on knowledge to his/her students in a way
and manner that they can understand. A teacher will go to the levels of
 his/her s

his
or her student and bring the students up from that level of his' or
hers' to a new level the teacher desires the student to be.

A
teacher will study to know the level of each student of his' or hers',
knowing that each student has different mental capacities. Even though
teaching those with high mental faculties with those with low mental
faculties, but the teacher would want them to be at relatively same
platform and thus would ensure that she or he knows his or her students
mental faculties to be able to impart the knowledge to the students.

Teacher
teaches to know, he or she wants his or her students to grasp the
necessary rudiments of his or her topics but not to crame to pass paper
questions alone. Ironically, what we value in this part of the world is
passing the paper works, questions, getting certificates but not
actually knowing not grasping the topic.

A teacher
though wants money but does not base his/her teachings on money... These
and more are what teachers are known for, these are what would be put
together to say who a teacher is actually is.

This
is the kind of persons who children should be sitting before to learn
one or more things from them. They will be sitting before them to drink
from their cup of knowledge so as to make needful impacts in life when
they come of age.

WHO COULD BE TEACHERS? It is
needful to say that our parents ought to be teachers. They are
children's first point of contacts thus they need to be able to teach
their wards. The bible says, "train up a child in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6)

There
are some who are gifted in teaching, teaching the word of God. Such
people occupy the office of a teacher as the apostle stated.

Life has also shown us that there are people who are also talented teachers..., these are the ones talking about.

2. LISTENING TO THEM (TEACHERS)
One
may go to a place, but one may not listen to what is being said there.
We have seen people who can read where there is much noise while some
need quiet place to study. Those who could read in a noisy area are
those who do not listen to what is go

going
around them, they have shielded their inner ears from the outside noise
and utterances, they have concentrated themselves on what they are
doing.

Something like this is expected of children as they go to teachers sitting before them, the onus is on them to listen to them.

Samson
the mighty man in the book of Judges failed in this respect at a
certain stage. He no longer listened to his parents. He though heard
them, but he did not listen to them.

Children ought to be listening to teachers not only going before them but listen to what they are saying and doing the same.

3.
ASKING QUESTIONS: No one is an island. And it has been discovered that
what one thinks he or she knows when one asks questions about such
things one would get something new related to the thing. As students and
children we need to be asking question from our teachers this would
clarify some hidden things and we would have more understanding as per
the thing.

4. ANSWERING QUESTIONS: During the course
of teachings, teachers would ask questions as students and children we
should endeavor to actively participate in answering those questions. We
do not need to be afraid. We do not need to be shy. We have to know
that when we make mistake in what we are being asked we are not likely
to make such mistakes again after being corrected by the teacher. But
when we are afraid or shy to ask, we are bound to go on with our
knowledge and understanding and of course make mistake where we ought
not to make mistakes.

As children and students are we actively participating in what we are being taught?

5.
GOING TO TEMPLE OR HOUSE OF GOD: Jesus when he was in the flesh as a
child shows us example that children ought to be going to the house of
God to know more about God. Are you as children not dodging the house of
God? Have we not replace the House of God with worldly things today?

6.
OBSERVING AND PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT OUR PARENTS ARE DOING:, Some of
the children are not mindful of what their parents are doing. In Genesis
22 we see that Isaac paid attention to what his father was doing, that
was why he could ask questions when they were going to the
