And She Was Murdered

And She Was Murdered
Decades ago, a lady, Toluwani, left her town, Erin-Ile, Kwara State, Nigeria in search of greener pastures for the northern part of the country, Kaduna State. Then Kaduna State is still peaceful and accommodating unlike what it is now.
Toluwani was the only child of her parents before they divorced themselves. Her father immediately after divorcing her mother left their town but people could not say where he left for. The responsibility of raising Toluwani was left on the shoulders of her mother who was selling petty things.
Divorce

Toluwani’s mother, three years after divorcing her husband remarried and have four children for the new husband. The new husband of this woman did not take proper care of Toluwani, this makes her think of leaving their town for another town, she was thinking of moving to a far place where her step father would not have access to. After serious consideration, he decided to leave for Kaduna State.
She has no one in the state, but she met with favor while going to the state as a woman, Madam Pepper, whom she met in the truck that conveyed them to the town decided to give her temporary accommodation until she settles down, when she heard of her condition having been in a similar shoe before, it was because she fled from her husband when the man wanted to kill her that she left to Kaduna from Inisa town leaving behind everything she has at home, including her two children who eventually were being taken care by her mother.
Truck Carrying People

It was after 10 years that she has been living in Kaduna that she decided to go home to see her children and family. When she got home, her parents were enormously grateful for seeing her again, by now her children were about to enter secondary school. She begged her mother to forgive her and they accepted her apology wanting her to however return unto her husband which she refused, that she does not want to go back into life of suffering. When her parents saw that nothing could be done to change her heart, they prayed for her and hand her to God’s hands.
After settling her children, with promise to always send something to them she left Inisa for Kaduna, and it was on the truck that was taken her to Kaduna that she met with Toluwani in the truck.
For the distance of the trip, the drivers used to have stop over at different junctures before getting to Kaduna. It was during the first stop over at Jebba town when she sees that the lady did not get out of the truck that she moved to her asking her to stretch her legs because the journey is still far. The lady told her that she has nothing and was by faith moving to Kaduna fleeing from her step father who is hostile to her. The woman pitied her condition and told her that she will be responsible for her feeding that she should come down. When she got off the truck she was taken to where they were selling foods to eat, and it was during this process that they got to know each other. When madam Pepper discovered her position, she decided to help her until she settles down in Kaduna.
Beer Parlor

When they got to the town, she started staying with the woman, and working with her at her beer parlor joint. It was at this beer parlor joint that she met with a man who took interest in her. She did not want to give in to the man because she does not want to make the same mistake that her mother made. The man who happened to be a soldier promised that he will not manhandle her promising to take very good care of her. Despite all his promises to Toluwani, she will not bulge until the man involves the woman who helped her settle into the town.
The woman talked to Toluwani that she should give the man a chance in her life, that she is having a rare privilege because soldier does not manhandle women any soldier who does that and he is reported to his superior would be disciplined and may even lose his job, above all the Madam Pepper added the man is from our side of the country, she should give him a chance.
After series of discussion with her, Tolu decided to give in to Captain Jemije.
Captain Jemije is traditional worshipper who hails from Offa town a neighboring town to Toluwani’s town. Since he knew no one with Toluwani other than Madam Pepper, he took the woman as her mother and was doing what was needful to her with promises that they will go home and pay her dowry later.
Soldiers

The year that they wanted to go home, captain Jemije was among those who was mobilized to travel to a west Africa country on a peace mission. He will not return from the trip until 5 years after.
Before he left his wife has taken in, and she put to bed twins. He used to send money to her monthly for her upkeep.
After the peace mission and he returned to his wife in Kaduna they planned to go home during one of the festivals holidays.
Before they traveled to Captain Jemije’s town Offa, there has been issues between Offa and Erin-Ile, but the news they were hearing where they were was that things have been put under control that there is no problem again, but unknow to them that things have not been totally put under control.
They have been home, and have gone to Toluwani’s parents to pay her dowry. After paying her dowry they decided that they will not return to their base immediately because it has been years that he left his town and since the leave he applied for has not been used up, they stayed back.
One day, he decided to follow his friend to another town where they used to play golf and it was when they were there that trouble broke out again between Offa and Erin-Ile.
Destroyed House

Things were so ugly that those people started taken out people from Erin-Ile whom they know are married to Offa indigene and started killing them. They got to the house of this man, took out his wife and killed her because she was from Erin-Ile.
Before the news got to them where they were things have been destroyed, things have gone out of hand. When he got home and saw the corpse of his wife he cried bitterly. He could not fathom how his people could act sub-cortically.
He left the town sorrowfully, saying his hope has been dashed.
