Ọrọ àgbà (words of elders)

Àìtètè jí inú ọtá ndùn, a jí tán inú mbi baba wọn

Translation

Because I did not wake up early, the enemies are happy, but after I woke up,
their fathers were annoyed.

(Joke part: Why don’t you sleep early? I assume that if you sleep early you
will wake up early)

Application:

The waking up in question here is not the physical sleeping and waking up,
but it has to do with one’s progress in life. Sometimes some people’s progress
(achievements in life would be delayed, it would be crawling in fact some’s
progress would be slower that snails’ movements. During these times that such
happen, I mean during the time that person could not achieve anything nthe
enemies would be happy, they would be deriding and moking the person, the
enemies would never think of any good thing about the person. An example of this
could be seen in the bible of the man called Obed-Edom, no one thought of any good
thing for the man, people wished him dead than being alive, this was clearly
revealed by the king’s thought of the man as king david asked that the Ark of
the Covenant be taken to his house, because he wished him death than being
alive, because since the time he had nbeen known to the king nothing good
happened, no good records could be stated or associated with the man (See 2nd
Samuel 6 and 1 Chronicles 13 for this story).

This saying is again true of towns or villages and that was found in the
response of Nathanael to his brother, Phillip, that “can there any good thing
come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46) This word again shows that in this world it
has been the belief of some that nothing good can be associated with some
cities, towns, countries, nations. In other words, it means that those cities
are usually looked down upon because no one from such places has ever made
appreciable impacts.

Thus when something suigeneris happened and someone from such places started
breaking forth, then people would be sad…. When something great haoppened and
the unexpected person started making it people would not be happy.

This is what the saying is all about, “Àìtètè jí inú ọtá ndùn, a jí tán inú
mbi baba wọn“. Now to make it in life is not directly related to the labor one
puts into something, making it in life, breaking barriers and boundaries are
directly proportional to the decision of God. The God who promotes, blesses and
makes one to break barriers and boundaries shall make you and I break-out and
breakthrough in Jesus name. Amen
